Full-Day Adventure in Ubud

A happy couple, a man and a woman, are surrounded by multiple colorful birds, including macaws and a rhinoceros hornbill, as they smile for a photo at Bali Bird Park.

·       Morning: Bali Bird Park

o   Leave your accommodation early to arrive at Bali Bird Park by 9am (from Seminyak, Canggu, or Nusa Dua, leave around 7am). Home to over 1,000 birds from Indonesia and around the world, the park offers beautifully landscaped aviaries and interactive feeding experiences. It is a great introduction to Bali’s wildlife and a fun, educational stop for all ages.

o   Pro Tip: Try to catch the free-flight bird show in the morning for an up-close encounter with colourful parrots and birds of prey.

·       Late Morning: Bali Zoo Park

o   A short 15-minute drive takes you to Bali Zoo. Explore the spacious, lush grounds and see everything from Sumatran tigers and elephants to tropical birds and reptiles. Guests can also book feeding experiences or elephant encounters for a more hands-on adventure.

o   Pro Tip: Bring extra water and light clothes as it gets warm walking around the zoo. Booking tickets in advance can help you skip the entrance lines.

·       Lunch Stop: Bebek Tepi Sawah Restaurant

o   Head into Ubud and enjoy lunch at Bebek Tepi Sawah, famous for its crispy duck and serene rice field views. This restaurant offers a mix of traditional Balinese dishes and more familiar options in a peaceful, open-air setting.

o   Pro Tip: Request a table overlooking the rice paddies and try the signature sambal (Balinese chili sauce) for an extra kick.

·       Early Afternoon: Ubud Monkey Forest

o   After lunch, make your way to the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, right in the heart of Ubud. Wander through the shaded forest paths among centuries-old temples and hundreds of playful long-tailed macaques. It is both lively and spiritual, offering a glimpse into local beliefs about humans and nature living in harmony.

o   Pro Tip: Keep your belongings secure. The monkeys are curious and quick to snatch loose items like sunglasses and snacks.

·       Mid Afternoon: Tegallalang Rice Terraces

o   About 20 minutes north of Ubud center, Tegallalang offers stunning, stepped rice terraces that epitomize Bali’s lush countryside. Walk along the narrow paths or stop for a drink at one of the cafés overlooking the fields. The scenery is especially beautiful in the soft afternoon light.

o   Pro Tip: Small donations are often requested when entering different terrace sections so keep some small cash handy.

·       Late Afternoon: Bali Swing

o   Wrap up your day with an adrenaline rush at Bali Swing, located just minutes from Tegalalang. Fly high over the jungle and rice terraces on one of the iconic giant swings, or capture unforgettable photos on the various nests and sky beds set up for visitors.

o   Pro Tip: Wear comfortable clothes (and avoid skirts or loose items that might catch on the harness). Arrive later in the day for fewer crowds and softer light for photos.

·       Suggestions for the day:

o   Start early to make the most of each stop and avoid midday crowds.

o   Bring cash for entry tickets, donations, and small purchases.

o   Your driver may be able to secure cheaper entry tickets to some of the attractions.

o   Pack sunscreen, a hat, insect repellent, and a refillable water bottle.

o   Expect a full day, plan for around 10 to 11 hours, depending on traffic and how long you spend at each site.

o   Offer to cover your driver’s meals and consider paying around RP 800,000 to 900,000 for a full day of service.
